Prayer, Meditation, and the Still Small Voice

Two doorways. One conversation. How to hear the voice that has always been leading you.

Note: this piece speaks from personal spiritual conviction and biblical language. Take what nourishes you and leave the rest.

Prayer is how I speak. Meditation is how I listen. For a long time, I only knew how to do the first one.

I would pour out my requests, my fears, my long lists of what I needed God to fix. And then I would get up, go about my day, and wonder why heaven felt silent. But heaven wasn't silent. I was.

The still small voice — the one 1 Kings 19 talks about, the one that wasn't in the wind or the earthquake or the fire — that voice speaks in the pause. It speaks in the breath between the words. It speaks in the shower, on the walk, in the moment before you fall asleep. It does not shout. It does not compete. It waits for you to get quiet enough to receive.

A simple practice:

1. Sit for two minutes and speak. Everything. The mess, the ask, the gratitude, the anger. Do not edit. 2. Then sit for five minutes and say nothing. Hand on heart. Breath slow. Let whatever rises, rise. 3. Keep a notebook nearby. Write down the sentence that keeps repeating. That's often the answer.

Whether you call it God, Source, Spirit, or your Higher Self — the voice that has been trying to lead you is real. It has been patient. It is not going anywhere.

You are not too far gone to hear it. You are just one quiet moment away.

Keep going
